Get started with hanzinihao.com — search characters, learn words, browse books.
Enter the character, pinyin, or radical you want to look up in the search box at the top of the Home or Characters page. The system will automatically match and display relevant results. You can also use the dropdown menu to select a search type (pinyin, radical, stroke count).
Go to any character's detail page. In the "Stroke Order" section, click the "Play stroke order" button to watch the stroke writing animation for that character.
Word search supports two-character words, three-character words, four-character idioms, proverbs/sayings, and more. You can select a type from the dropdown menu next to the search box, or simply enter a keyword for an all-type search.
Click "Books" in the navigation bar to enter the book search page. You can search by title, author, publisher, or ISBN, and sort by rating or date added.
"Character of the Day" is our curated character learning plan. Each day we recommend one character with its definition, pinyin, stroke order, and related words to help you learn Chinese characters systematically.
The site currently supports Simplified Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese. You can switch the interface language using the language toggle button on the right side of the navigation bar.
Yes, Hanzi Nihao is fully responsive and works on phones, tablets, and desktop browsers, so you can look up and learn anytime, anywhere.
